My
Health
Journey

How it all started.

My journey with Functional Medicine began from an illness with acid reflux, gastritis, fatigue, symptoms of hormonal imbalance, and feeling down to a degree of depression. I was also extremely overweight - the biggest I had ever been. At the time, like anyone else, I sought relief. At this point, I knew I wasn't feeling well but was told by my healthcare provider to start and continue taking a PPI (proton pump inhibitors) indefinitely. I was told my health would improve as most Americans are on a similar regimen, however, my health did not improve. This is where I began to identify foods that would almost immediately cause tiredness and depressive feelings shortly after eating. Following that, I sought second opinions and treatment from other specialists to no avail until I discovered Functional Medicine. In contrast to many of my colleagues, this was not an approach I was familiar with, as I had primarily studied what was considered western or conventional medicine at that point in my career.

My Realizations.

More than anything, I needed to understand what was causing me to feel mentally and physically ill. Upon discovering Functional Medicine & Functional Nutrition, I quickly realized that my consumption of processed meals and fast foods were major contributors to the signs and symptoms I experienced. Prior to this point, I knew that diet and lifestyle were important, but I didn’t know how they could cause and heal our most widely known sicknesses. With these realizations in hand, there was no turning back. I had to know more and wanted to help others experience the wide-ranging benefits of Functional Medicine and Functional Nutrition themselves. This mission led me to study with the Functional Nutrition Alliance.

My Journey with Functional Medicine.

On my wellness journey with Functional Medicine and Nutrition, I learned that most chronic conditions could be prevented, and the body can cure itself. It was this breakthrough learning that eventually encouraged me to implement such medicinal interventions on myself. I changed my diet and lifestyle and became intentional about improving my health by becoming mindful of what I ate. Since then, I've seen nearly a 180-degree change in my health and I can proudly say I am healthier, body and mind than ever before. By taking a Functional Medicine approach while maintaining a conventional medicine perspective where appropriate, I was finally able to experience resolution to the symptoms I suffered from. I also lost 33 pounds without feeling constrained or missing out on great-tasting foods. My discovery of and benefits received from Functional Nutrition changed my life and solidified my new calling. I became more passionate about helping others achieve good health, healing through Functional Nutrition Counseling, and the efficacious meal planning it provides. Faith and prayer have also been an integral part of my success in my journey to wellness. Being able to see those I work with experience optimal health is a dream come true.
